Visiting AlUla
Before October 2020

After a significant transformation to develop AlUla into a year-round visitor destination, the town and surrounding heritage areas will re-open for visitors in October 2020.

What can I do and see before October 2020?

Relax, rejuvenate and appreciate the vast silence of the desert. See millions of years of water and wind erosion at work by visiting famous rock formations like Elephant Rock, AlGharameel and Dancing Rocks. Go camping under the stars near these natural sites, where you’ll find some of the best stargazing opportunities in the world. Walk through an oasis that has sustained life for thousands of years. Drive to the Harrat Owairedh lookout point for magnificent vistas (be sure to approach with caution, as your visit will include a steep drive).

Currently, shopping and dining options are limited, so stop in AlUla town for essentials. You might even put together a self-catered picnic—an ideal way to take in AlUla’s beautiful landscape. While you can roam AlUla’s open areas at any time, if you are driving around at night, make sure to be prepared with the right equipment, safety information and night-driving experience in desert conditions.

Where can I stay right now in AlUla?

Travellers visiting AlUla prior to October can choose to stay at either Shaden Resort or at the Sahary Desert Camp.

Shaden Resort offers comfortable accommodations in an incredible location. The resort features a restaurant, an outdoor swimming pool, a 24-hour front desk and free Wi-Fi throughout the property. A continental breakfast is also available each morning at the restaurant.

At Sahary Desert Camp, rooms are styled in traditional Bedouin décor. On-site, you will find a restaurant, a shared lounge and terrace and a 24-hour front desk. All units come with a seating area, a TV and a private bathroom. The hotel also offers a continental breakfast.
